The Lubbock-Avalanche Journal is seeking a Part Time Machine Operator, who will report to the Packaging Supervisor. Under the direction of the Packaging Supervisor the Machine Operator will ensure the continuous safe operations of all packaging equipment for maximum production.


Within 90 days be able to setup and operate all packaging equipment, to operate safely and at maximum production.

Continuously learn the mechanics of the equipment, maintenance and how to repair all equipment.

Must be resourceful and be able to recognize problems with the equipment and under the direction of the machinist or supervisor repair the equipment.

Must be able to setup and operate the equipment in a safe manner at maximum production. Assist machinist or supervisor with repairs which may require the lifting of up to 100 lbs., carrying up to 50 lbs. and pushing up to 500 lbs. Assure the accurate insertion of all inserts into each publication.

Must learn the operation of all packaging equipment. Operators may be required to drive company vehicle based on staffing levels, which requires knowledge of mailing procedures, a valid driver's license and DOT physical. Must

Must be able to communicate well with other employees and supervisors, keeping the best working relationship as possible. Must avoid friction.

Must be able to express needs and/or concerns to employees and supervisors.

Must always give a good impression when dealing with people from other departments.

Physical Demands of the job are working within the air-conditioned warehouse space. Will get dirty when doing maintenance and repairs on equipment. On occasion may have to work overtime and may have to work in small areas or on ladders.


  • Ensure continuous safe operations of equipment for maximum production.
  • Ensure the correct inserts are on the line and are inserted correctly (Quality Control).
  • Assist the employees with the operations of the equipment.
  • Assist the machinist as needed.
  • Performs delivery driver duties when staff levels mandate. Other duties as deemed necessary by Supervisor.

High School graduate with an above average mechanical aptitude.
