Job Description
Process Metallurgist sought by Nucor Steel Texas for the Jewett, TX location. Candidate must have a Masters or foreign equiv deg in Materials Science/Engg, Metallurgy or directly related field & 18 mo of product dvlpmt & metallurgical exp in a hot roll steel mill environment. Exp must incl: Product dvlpmt exp in melting, casting, heat treating, hot rolling, plate rolling & reheating; Root cause analysis utilizing six sigma & lean mfg to investigate & prevent mfg non-conformities & improve the effectiveness of steel making & hot rolling processes along w/ improving the final product quality; Using thermodynamics/phase diagrams to predict phase changes, support the materials process such as heat profile in the reheat furnace &/or quench & Temper lines, & failure analysis; Exp running tensile & hardness machines to measure mechanical properties, hardness & run chemical analysis on the spectrometer of steel samples; Exp utilizing various Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES); & ISO 9001:2015 & IATF 16949:2016 certification reqd or willingness to obtain.
