PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
Manage and support various production systems across the enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Monitor, troubleshoot and track day-to-day application issues in production. Perform system deployments, software upgrades and implement automation. Create and maintain troubleshooting documentation and operations knowledge articles. Work with other technical teams to deploy, support, and improve production application availability.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Daily Systems Administration Expectations
a. Analyze logs of all virtual desktop infrastructure quickly and proactively remediate all issues.
b. Manage environment health and performance metrics in real-time and take corrective actions to ensure system stability and availability.
c. Ensure all system usage and performance metrics are properly logged and available for analysis to determine performance trends.
d. Meet service level expectations through timely troubleshooting and resolution of reported issues.
e. Ensure in compliance with corporate business continuity plan and regulatory requirements.
2. Continual Improvement Expectations
a. Work with other technical teams to maintain infrastructure hardware life cycle performing proactive upgrades to ensure hardware meets performance demands.
b. Ensure proper configuration of all virtual desktop infrastructure including host operating system, storage, physical network connectivity, driver compatibility, and etc.
c. Utilize proper testing methodologies to ensure continual improvements of managed infrastructure.
d. Work with responsible team to ensure virtual guest infrastructure is kept in sync with the hosting environment and utilizing the most efficient configurations, drivers, etc.
e. Maintain virtual desktop infrastructure layered access controls.
f. Utilize proper reports and user feedback to identify area of improvements within the infrastructure and provide recommended action plans.
g. Ensure compliance and business continuity through continual enhancements.
h. Work with cyber security and risk management teams to perform regular cyber risk audits. Develop and present appropriate remediation plans and timelines.
i. Implement and continually update the standard operating procedures following industry standards and best practices to address system cyber security, maintenance, and deployment of all managed systems.
j. Implement and continually maintain infrastructure design documentation.
3. Provide frequent status reports to manager with analysis and suggested solutions.
a. Provide manager with routine reports, including, but not limited to performance and scalability, system service level management, and user application and system usage.
4. Provide training and instruction to other team members.
5. Maintain environment inventory including all managed hardware, operating system, and application licensing.
6. Provide escalation support to I.T. Service Desk, troubleshoot and resolve issues for all managed systems.
7. Maintain knowledge of managed systems and environment thru self-study and other approved training opportunities.
8. Participate in departmental on call scheduling as well as weekly maintenance window schedules.
9. Follow proper change management procedures for all system changes.
10. All other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED and an Associate degree in MIS or Computer Science from an accredited college or university is required. Equivalent experience of three (3) years in information systems can be used in lieu of associate's degree. Must possess and maintain (or be able to obtain) the following certification, Citrix XenDesktop.
Incumbent must have five (5) year's experience in systems management and administration. Minimum 3 of those years in XenDesktop systems infrastructure. Experience with VMWare virtualization technologies is a plus.
Position involves wrist/hand manipulation; good visual acuity for detail work; ability to bend stoop on a regular basis; reach overhead and lift up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for frequent viewing of computer monitor and review of documents. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license, means of transportation and be able to travel independently.
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must have a strong ability to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must have a strong ability to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters. Incumbent must be available to: travel within field of membership and work after normal business hours, when requested by management.
PC's and printers, telecommunications equipment, calculator, fax and copy machine. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Must have thorough understanding of Microsoft Server Operating systems, Microsoft Desktop Operating systems, Microsoft Server networking, Server Virtualization, and XenDesktop.
