Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory research projects. Performs work independently and responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards maybe present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment, and for ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.
Conducts molecular screens to identify novel regulators of DVL proteins. Optimizes protocols to the cell line and pharmacologic inhibitor used and includes all essential controls. Conducts RT-PCR and qPCR experiments to identify targets of DVL3. Optimizes RT-PCR protocols specific to the cell line, incorporates all key controls and applies the delta-delta Ct method of calculation of fold change in mRNA. Maintains the most stringent standards of sterility during cell culture.
Performs person-specific lab duties including: aliquoting cell culture reagents, cleaning cell culture water bath & managing primer inventories. Maintains the most stringent standards of sterility during aliquoting and ensures that inventories are accurate and up-to-date. Assists in maintenance of lab equipment. Cleans and sterilizes laboratory glassware and instruments. Maintains and troubleshoots lab equipment. Resolves outages & schedules maintenance & repair as needed.

Prepares basic solutions for use within the lab. Prepares assigned basic solutions according to protocols. Solutions are available when needed with proper pH and sterility. Keeps equipment and laboratory clean.
Master's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (6 years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis.
Knowledge of and expertise in molecular assays such as site-directed mutagenesis, immunoprecipitation, chromatin immunoprecipitation, RT-PCR, IHC, qPCR, Western blotting and mass spectrometry analyses.
