Position Description
Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Supports the Service Plus Philosophy of TTUHSC
  • Adheres to Institutional and Departmental safety policies and procedures
  • Prints clinical dictation and reviews physician documentation for 100% chart review and accurately codes office E/M's to include office procedures and applying the appropriate modifier when applicable 
  • Work TES edits. Assist with charge entry 
  • Prints dictation from UMC Power Chart, for in-patients and out patient E/M, and operative notes and codes appropriately according to documentation reviewed
  • Reviews and prints out the daily UMC Surgery OR-Recap and job lists and provides the correct information for the charge entry process and coding process
  • Responsible for notifying physicians via email when surgical documentation is delinquent or needs corrections 
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in processes that are implemented 
  • Communicates professionally and effectively with the coding supervisor regarding all billing and coding issues 
  • Attends audio conferences for continuing education for job requirements.

Required Qualifications
* A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding. OR * A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a recognized procedural and diagnosis coding course.
