Position Description
Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
* Installs, maintains, and repairs 480, 277, 208, and 120 volt distribution systems (emergency, switch gear, Buss duct, transformers, breakers).­ Repairs and replaces electrical appliances, bells, buzzers, motors, starters, cable system (computers, communications, audiovisual).­ Troubleshoots electrical circuits for shorts, overloads, grounds, and opens.­ Installs conduit and other types of raceways for electrical circuits and communication equipment.
* Performs PM, inspections, and repairs as required on electrical systems and equipment in assigned area.
* Documents and records work accomplished, time expended, and parts used on appropriate forms and in the CMMS Work Order System.
* Performs on-call duties as an essential personnel of the institution and at the direction of the institution.
* Initiate work orders thru work control for any trade upon notice of building system deficiency.­ Submits to supervisor(s) written detail of deficiency.
* Secures necessary supplies and materials from Business Services Central Stores as required for completion of work orders.
* Carries out oral and written instructions to perform related work as directed or required by direct supervisor.

Monday thru Friday 8 to 5. On Call 24/7 As Needed for Building Emergencies

Preferred Qualifications
* Certification or apprentice / journeymen license in specific trade.
* Must have good manual dexterity.­ Must be in good physical condition.­
* Thorough knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices of building maintenance and light construction associated with the trade.
* Working knowledge of all the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to maintenance and light construction.
* Baseline computer skills as they relate to entry of time, Work Order system, and email.­
* Ability to work from blue prints, pencil sketches, verbal directions, O&M Manuals, and departmental procedures.
* Working knowledge of troubleshooting as it relates to various mechanical and electrical systems.

Occasional Duties
* Performs any and all job related duties as deemed necessary and assigned by any supervisory level Plant Operations personnel.
* Operates State vehicles as necessary to pick up parts for jobs, etc.­ Must be an approved driver as determined by TTU Office of Risk Management and insurance carrier.­ Must be able to pass the employee Criminal Background Check.
* Monitors CHACPII emergency generator testing monthly, and verifies operation of building after test is complete.
* Each unlicensed electrician will be actively enrolled as an Electrical Apprentice with the TDLR (Texas Dept of Licensing & Regulation), and must inform foreman of any change in status.

Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyman.
